Fall 2025 FDSN Seminar Series: Wei Qin
The Department of Food Science and Nutrition at 杏吧论坛 presents its fall 2025 seminar series featuring guest speaker Wei Qin, head of global consumer insights at Ingredion, who will present 鈥淐onsumer Attitudes Toward Sustainability.鈥 This seminar will take place on Thursday, November 6, 2025, from 12:45鈥1:45 p.m. over Zoom.
Abstract
Challenging time for sustainability due to government policy change, consumers' high awareness of recent extreme weather conditions, and volatile economic condition driving towards affordability and basic needs. However, market trends and consumer data suggest that companies should still focus on sustainability through actions that are meaningful to consumers.
Biography
Wei Qin is the head of global consumer insights at Ingredion. She immigrated to the United States in 2001 for her Ph.D. in consumer perceptions toward new food technologies at Pennsylvania State University. She has spent more than 25 years as a consumer researcher guiding product innovations and technology development in leading consumer packaged goods companies and flavor and fragrance manufacturers. She played a key role in developing several category disruptors, which have grown to international brands with revenue exceeding hundreds of millions.
Wei lives in New Jersey with her daughter, Jennifer. She has a broad range of interests, including reading, playing tennis and golf, hiking, cooking, and trying new things. Some fun facts about her are that she developed a mini biosphere during college, which was displayed at the Chinese National Science Museum for six months. She participated in a NASA Food Development competition at Penn State and her team was the second-place winner.
