Alphawood Arboretum

Alphawood Arboretum at ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ comprises 120 acres on the university’s historic Mies Campus in the Bronzeville community on Chicago’s South Side. 

Thanks to a generous grant from —in addition to the work and organization completed by students in ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳’s College of Architecture—Alphawood Arboretum was officially . ArbNet is managed by the Morton Arboretum’s Registry of Arboreta, which tracks and accredits thousands of arboreta across the world! As a Level 1 arboretum, Alphawood currently has less than 100 recorded taxa of woody trees and shrubs as part its arboretum collection. 

Alphawood Arboretum currently manages more than 1,800 total plant specimens—and it is constantly growing! Alphawood Arboretum is one of only four accredited arboretums within the Chicago city limits, joining Lincoln Park Zoo, Graceland Cemetery, and the University of Illinois Chicago campus. 

Alphawood Arboretum is free to visit and open to the public.
